The Quietus at Sasha Siem

Undeniably one of the more original acts on the bill this weekend, half Norwegian, half English Sasha Siem brings quality elocution and an unusual mix of jazz, diva torch songs and avant-chamber pop to Oslo. Songs speed up and slow down, at times pausing altogether for what seems like minutes, while the sultry Siem glides theatrically around unexpectedly catchy melodies, powered along by imaginative junkyard, Tom Waits percussion and gypsy violin. Smart, sparse, engrossing, and pretty damned unique stuff.
